Travel and Tourism Programme

The Global Travel & Tourism Programme, South Africa (GTTP-SA) will be established as a stand-alone programme outside of the NBI with effect from 01 October 2009. The NBI has managed the programme 1999 with much success.  Andre Fourie, Chief Executive of the NBI, said “We are very proud that the NBI has been able to accomplish what we set out to do.  Tourism education is an integral part of the South African national curriculum, and learners now have an opportunity to become educated about career opportunities in an industry that is vital to our economy.”

As at 2009, approximately 2 000 schools deliver the Tourism subject to some 300 000 learners from Grades 10-12. To date, the NBI has also trained over 1 000 tourism teachers as well as all Tourism subject advisors in the country.

GTTP South Africa will be now be headed by Lisa Gordon-Davis, owner and managing director of Kundiza Training and Consulting. This handover process fits into the NBI’s strategy of being the catalyst for the creation of self-sustaining programmes and projects.
