Research and first-hand experiences show us that the persistent challenges faced by women in sports are closely linked to gender inequality. For our latest Intergenerational Leadership Dialogue, we are exploring the impact of gender equity for Women in Sports.
Nurturing talent and skill in the sporting sector in South Africa is multifaceted. Success for the sporting sector as a whole requires garnering investment from the private sector on one hand, as well as supporting government interventions to facilitate transformation and broader social equity, both on and off the field. Through sponsorships and investments, the private sector has demonstrated an interest in supporting young talent, nurturing these individuals into formidable national sportspersons.
This dialogue is intended to unpack and explore the private sector’s role and support of women’s sports in South Africa, particularly how this impacts young female talent, as well as interrogating gaps and opportunities for greater equity across local sports. Through engagements with a panel of experts across government, private sector and academia, some of the guiding questions for this discussion include:

The National Business Initiative (NBI) has developed the Intergenerational Leadership Dialogues as a platform to critically explore how workplaces engage generational differences as an important aspect of transformation and equity. These discussions are intended to elevate the voices of young people at work, facilitating innovative thinking and reimagining leadership.
