SUMMARY:Transparency in Corporate Reporting 2020: Report Launch
DESCRIPTION:Corruption Watch (the South African chapter of Transparency International) and ODI (an international development thinktank in London)\, in partnership with the Ethical Leadership & Anti-Corruption Programme of the  National Business Initiative (NBI)\, are hosting the launch of Transparency in Corporate Reporting: Assessing South African Companies 2020. \nThis important benchmarking study used an objective questionnaire to score and rank 100 corporations in South Africa on the transparency of their reporting on: \n\nAnti-corruption programmes;\nSubsidiary and associated companies; and\nOperations outside South Africa.\n\nThe Report is based on a close examination of annual reports and other publicly available documentation on corporate websites. The sample includes nearly 70 companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE)\, as well as large privately-owned corporations\, state-owned enterprises and foreign multinationals. The average score of 59.5% for the sample reflects some positive signs\, but our analysis of the results also suggests some ‘red flags’ which corporates need to address. \nThe Transparency in Corporate Reporting (TRAC) study will enhance ethics\, integrity and transparency in the business sector and strengthen anti-corruption programmes. Transparency of business activities is crucial for good corporate governance\, which in turn contributes to improved corporate performance across all dimensions. We believe that peer pressure and competition linked to the TRAC rankings will reinforce better governance. This project builds upon Corruption Watch’s 2016 work on Transparency in Corporate Reporting\, which covered 50 companies. \nThe event will include a panel discussion as well as insights from: \n\nNicky Newton-King: former CEO of the JSE\nNonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita: CEO of IchorCoal & Chair of the JSE Board\nCas Coovadia: CEO of BUSA & Chair of the NBI Board\n\nPlease join us for this online Launch on Wednesday\, 2 December 2020 at 11:00 to hear key insights from the research\, as well as lessons for companies for their corporate reporting in future. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Water security is no longer a future concern\, it is already affecting communities\, businesses\, cities\, economies and ecosystems. As pressure on water systems grows\, organisations need credible and practical ways to respond beyond their own operations. This is where water stewardship becomes critical \n\n\n\n \n Join the National Business Initiative (NBI)\, in partnership with the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)\, for a thought leadership webinar exploring the newly launched AWS Standard Version 3.0 the global benchmark for credible water stewardship. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Building on the NBI’s early 2025 Thought Leadership Session\, which introduced the AWS Standard and the CEO Water Mandate’s Net Positive Water Impact (NPWI) Ambition Guide\, this session will explore how the AWS Standard Version 3.0 can help organisations move from ambition to practical action\, strengthening water management and supporting lasting impact for people\, nature and economies. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Participants will gain insights into: \n\nThe revised AWS Standard Version 3.0\nHow water stewardship can support utilities\, cities\, industries and other organisations\nSouth Africa’s water security challenges\nPractical examples of collective action and implementation\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Speakers \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \nGarth Barnes: Programme Manager: Environment & Society\, National Business Initiative (NBI)\nFaith Lawrence (PhD): Head of Strategic Partnerships & Policy Engagement\, Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)\nTyler Farrow: Standards Manager\, Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)\nHelen Seyler: Technical Consulting Director\, ERM\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Event Details: \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \nDate: Thursday\, 09 July 2026\nTime: 15h00 – 16h30 (SAST)\nPlatform: Online via Zoom\n \n\n\n\n \n Join us to explore how the AWS Standard 3.0 can help organisations respond to today’s water challenges and create lasting positive impact for people\, nature\, and economies. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n Click Here to RSVP
