SUMMARY:Unlocking Corporate Procurement to Drive South Africa’s Renewable Electricity Transition Launch
DESCRIPTION:Join the National Business Initiative (NBI) in partnership with The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)\, The Climate Group\, CDP and supported by We Mean Business\, to accelerate corporate renewable electricity procurement in South Africa. \nA renewable electricity revolution is underway across the globe. This transition to renewable based electricity is a gamechanger for sustainable growth and global efforts to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement. \nCompanies in South Africa are the largest consumers of electricity and therefore play a critical role in unlocking the widespread systemic change needed to achieve a carbon-neutral future. To this end\, more than 50 companies with operations in South Africa have embarked on plans to procure 100% renewable power by 2050 or sooner\, through RE100\, led by the Climate Group and CDP\, or the WBCSD’s REscale initiative. \nTo unlock opportunities for corporate renewable procurement\, the NBI\, WBCSD\, The Climate Group\, CDP and We Mean Business coalition will be hosting a multi-stakeholder online workshop on the 29th of March 2021\, to discuss how businesses\, renewable electricity suppliers and municipalities can best realise the opportunities for corporate renewable electricity procurement in South Africa. \nThis Launch will kickstart a broader stream of work aiming to: \n\nUnlock opportunities for local companies committed to reaching net-zero emissions by facilitating discussions with renewable electricity suppliers\, local government\, and cities;\nBring together electricity buyers and producers to understand common challenges; and\nUnderstand how companies can accelerate the renewable electricity transition in South Africa.\n\nRE100 is a global initiative bringing together over 270 of the world’s most influential businesses driving the transition to 100% renewable electricity. WBCSD’s REscale members share the ambition to scale up renewable deployment beyond average growth to achieve 3.5 TW of capacity by 2025. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Water security is no longer a future concern\, it is already affecting communities\, businesses\, cities\, economies and ecosystems. As pressure on water systems grows\, organisations need credible and practical ways to respond beyond their own operations. This is where water stewardship becomes critical \n\n\n\n \n Join the National Business Initiative (NBI)\, in partnership with the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)\, for a thought leadership webinar exploring the newly launched AWS Standard Version 3.0 the global benchmark for credible water stewardship. \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Building on the NBI’s early 2025 Thought Leadership Session\, which introduced the AWS Standard and the CEO Water Mandate’s Net Positive Water Impact (NPWI) Ambition Guide\, this session will explore how the AWS Standard Version 3.0 can help organisations move from ambition to practical action\, strengthening water management and supporting lasting impact for people\, nature and economies. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n Participants will gain insights into: \n\nThe revised AWS Standard Version 3.0\nHow water stewardship can support utilities\, cities\, industries and other organisations\nSouth Africa’s water security challenges\nPractical examples of collective action and implementation\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Speakers \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \nGarth Barnes: Programme Manager: Environment & Society\, National Business Initiative (NBI)\nFaith Lawrence (PhD): Head of Strategic Partnerships & Policy Engagement\, Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)\nTyler Farrow: Standards Manager\, Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS)\nHelen Seyler: Technical Consulting Director\, ERM\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Event Details: \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \nDate: Thursday\, 09 July 2026\nTime: 15h00 – 16h30 (SAST)\nPlatform: Online via Zoom\n \n\n\n\n \n Join us to explore how the AWS Standard 3.0 can help organisations respond to today’s water challenges and create lasting positive impact for people\, nature\, and economies. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n Click Here to RSVP
