We are excited for you to join us as we release these findings as part of the broader NBI-BUSA-BCG Just Transition Pathways project for public consultation. \nThe National Business Initiative (NBI) launched the Just Transition Pathways research project in 2020 in partnership with Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Together\, with a broad range of stakeholders\, including business\, government\, civil society and academia\, we sought to identify decarbonisation pathways for key sectors of the South African economy\, aligned with the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. This was done to show that it is indeed possible to decarbonise our economy and to ensure a Just Transition. \nA Just Transition is an opportunity for South Africa to manage both physical climate and transition risks\, effectively contributing to global climate response efforts and addressing our current socio-economic challenges. In the wake of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic\, a Just Transition offers a way to foster an inclusive and equitable economic recovery and growth\, unlocking green investment opportunities and economic competitiveness for key sectors. This part of our Just Transitions project seeks to identify techno-economic decarbonisation pathways for key sectors of our economy and highlight what critical decisions and actions are necessary to enable a Just Transition for South Africa. \nThese report chapters summarise the results from the development of both the mining as well as petrochemicals and chemicals sector decarbonisation pathways towards net zero emissions by 2050. \nJoin the webinar on 12th October 2021 as we highlight what the possible decarbonisation pathways could look like for each of these sectors and consider their implications and opportunities for South Africa. \n\n\n \n \n \n \n\n \n Water security is no longer a future concern\, it is already affecting communities\, businesses\, cities\, economies and ecosystems.
