SUMMARY:NBI C-Suite Roundtable: Johannesburg
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to participate in a stakeholder engagement workshop convened by the National Business Initiative’s (NBI) Just Energy Transition Skilling for Employment Programme (JET SEP). The session will bring together key industry\, regulatory and training participants to engage on the current energy efficiency landscape\, emerging skills requirements\, and opportunities to strengthen workforce readiness for South Africa’s energy transition. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Background and Context \n \n\n\n\n\n \n As South Africa advances its Just Energy Transition (JET)\, Energy Efficiency (EE) remains a key and immediate tool for addressing energy security challenges and lowering carbon emissions. The implementation of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and the expansion of Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) are central to this transition. \nUnlocking their full potential depends on a skilled\, adaptable\, and standardised workforce. JET SEP aims to ensure that the transition is both inclusive and job-focused. To design skilling interventions that are relevant and effective\, JET SEP requires a detailed understanding of the current energy efficiency landscape\, key market barriers\, and emerging skills needs. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Agenda \n \n\n\n\n\n \n The workshop will be a highly interactive\, one-day session focusing on three main pillars: Market Reality\, Skilling Alignment and Collaboration. \n\nSession 1: Setting the landscape and regulatory horizons (NBI)\nSession 2: The demand side – what ESCOs and practitioners need (Department of Electricity and Energy\, SANEDI and Energy Services Companies Association of Southern African (EASA)\nSession 3: The supply side – current curricula and capacitation (Institute of Energy Professionals Africa (IEPA)\, Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) and TVET Colleges)\nSession 4: Co-creating solutions and next steps (All participants\, NBI to lead)\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Expected Outcomes \n \n\n\n\n\n \n \nSkills demand map: A clear\, documented matrix of immediate\, medium\, and long-term skill requirements for ESCOs and EPC practitioners.\nCurriculum gap analysis: Identified areas where current TVET and professional EE curricula require updating\, enhancement\, or practical workplace components.\n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \nPartnership ecosystem: A strengthened network linking public regulators (Department of Electricity and Energy\, SANEDI)\, private industry (EASA\, ESCOs)\, and training institutions to build sustainable talent pipelines.\nStrategic input for JET SEP: Actionable data to refine JET SEP’s skilling interventions\, ensuring they are explicitly tied to market demand\, sustainable employment and SME development.\n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n\n \n \n Event Details: \n \n\n\n\n\n \n Date: Friday\, 26 June 2026 \nTime: 09h00 – 13h00 (SAST) \nVenue: The Capital Empire \n177 Empire Place (Corner of Rivonia Road)\, Sandton \nThe session will conclude with lunch and networking from 12h15 to 13h00
