DESCRIPTION:An invitation to an intimate reflection on recent developments in the country over lunch with Cas Coovadia (Chairman\, The Banking Association of South Africa)\, Xolani Magojo (Chairperson\, NBI KZN Regional Advisory Committee) and Joanne Yawitch (CEO:  The National Business Initiative). \nWe invite you to join us to reflect on recent developments in the country and make sense of what these mean for business in the short to medium-term.  The 1H2018 started off under a romantic haze of nostalgia following leadership change within the ruling party. \nBe that as it may\, challenges facing the country abound:  inequality\, unemployment and poverty levels remain stubbornly high.  We are also not addressing\, in a way that produces results\, the low levels of investment and economic growth\, which are critical to addressing inequality\, poverty and unemployment.  The fresh attack on emerging market currencies including the Rand\, imminent legislative changes on land ownership and the approaching national elections continue to collectively nurture uncomfortable levels of market insecurity. \nIn spite of the outlook\, the NBI stands firm in the belief that business has a strong and meaningful role to play in successfully steering and influencing the country through choppy waters.  Join Cas\, Xolani and Joanne and a select group of KwaZulu-Natal business people for an intimate and stimulating discussion on emergent political and economic trends\, and what these mean for business in the region. \n Please note that this is a by invitation only event.

SUMMARY:Thought Leadership Series: The 4th Industrial Revolution and The Future of Work in SA
DESCRIPTION:The National Business Initiative (NBI) and Adcorp\, hosted by Barloworld Limited are holding the second thought leadership series that has begun to explore the 4th Industrial Revolution from the perspective of what it might mean for our economy and how we can engage with it to create new opportunities and jobs that support the vision of the National Development Plan (NDP) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This follows the first dialogue session at which subject matter experts shared their views of the trends which are foreshadowed to impact the new world of work. \nThe focus of this second dialogue\, will reflect on the nature of work and the debate around what constitutes decent work both in South Africa and worldwide and opportunities for South Africa within the 4th Industrial Revolution\, drawing on work done by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the International Organisation of Employers (IOE)\, which is the employer representative body at the ILO. The timing of this dialogue is particularly relevant given the fact that President Ramaphosa is now the co-chair of the ILO Global Commission on the Future of Work.
