President Ramaphosa launched the Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative in March 2018, as a joint effort between business, government and organised labour, catalysed by the CEO Initiative, aimed at providing year long opportunities for work-readiness training and work experience to unemployed black youth aged between 18 and 29. The NBI’s Pathways to Employability programme complements the strategic intent of YES by demonstrating greater alignment between industry demand and programmes offered by TVET colleges through structured workplace-based learning; and developing a scaleable model for TVET college improvement.
