Nkangala district municipality Just Transition project launch

South Africa stands at a critical moment in its development journey as the country works to balance economic growth, energy security, climate commitments and inclusive development. For regions such as Mpumalanga, the Just Transition presents both a significant challenge and a unique opportunity to reimagine local economic growth, strengthen resilience and unlock sustainable investment opportunities for communities and industries alike.
This strategic partnership seeks to support a coordinated, district-level response to South Africa’s Just Transition by strengthening institutional capacity, identifying and preparing bankable projects and facilitating investment into sustainable development initiatives within the district.
The programme will include:
A high-level overview of the Just Transition initiative and its strategic importance to the Nkangala District
Presentation of the Project Management Unit (PMU) structure and implementation roadmap
Introduction to Local Economic Development (LED) Workstreams and project pipelines
Engagement sessions with stakeholders and development partners
A working session focused on mentorship, skills transfer, and project preparation
The launch marks an important milestone in advancing locally-driven economic transition pathways that prioritise economic inclusion, skills development, investment mobilisation, and long-term resilience for communities and businesses across the Nkangala District.
Your participation as a valued stakeholder is important in shaping a just, inclusive and sustainable economic future for the District. The launch will provide a platform to engage directly with public and private sector development partners and local stakeholders working collectively to drive South Africa’s Just Transition agenda forward.
