Adaptation Finance Events 2020 – “Unlocking Private Sector Involvement in the Green Climate Fund Projects in South Africa”
February 12, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
The National Business Initiative (NBI) and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) have the pleasure of inviting you to attend a series of events towards building a pipeline of adaptation and biodiversity-based adaptation projects to alleviate the acute shortage of adaption projects locally; and to attract up to US$50 million from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The NBI and SANBI have launched this 3-phase project designed to help identify areas of vulnerability, areas where our member companies are working on adaptation projects already and where, through collaboration, we can scale up these projects to enhance impact and to attract climate finance. Phase 1 grounds us all in the latest information on the climate science, adaptation and finance. Phase 2 will look at specific project identification. Phase 3 will shortlist to a few high promise projects with which we can approach the GCF.
Event 1 of the project took place on 21 November 2019 led by Prof Bob Scholes and Prof Francois Engelbrecht of the Wits Global Change and focused on the latest climate science, adaptation and finance information.
Future events in phase 1 include the following topics:
An introduction to and the state of climate finance;
Adaptation finance examples and best practice; and
The role of biodiversity and ecosystem-based finance.
