Green Finance Taxonomy Expansion Webinar Series: The GFT and ESG Disclosure
Friday, 16 September 2022 10:00 to 10:45
In April 2022, the South African National Treasury launched the Green Finance Taxonomy (GFT) version 1 for South Africa, which serves as a catalogue that defines a minimum set of assets, projects and sectors as eligible to be defined as “green” or environmentally friendly. The Taxonomy also includes the listing of standards that define economic activities as green, based on conformance to specific criteria.
The Taxonomy’s development has been overseen by a Taxonomy Working Group, a multi-representative group drawing from national government, financial sector regulators and the financial services sector.
Since the launch of the GFT, the National Business Initiative (NBI) and Carbon Trust have been undertaking a project overseen by the South African National Treasury to embed the GFT into the financial sector ecosystem. To this end, Carbon Trust and NBI, are hosting a webinar series covering topics such as international green finance trends and lessons as well as GFT and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosures.
The aim of the webinar series is to share insights from a diverse set of speakers and panellists on national sustainability and financial reporting also launch a set of knowledge products and tools on how to deepen GFT implementation and integration at a macro-scale.
