MEMBER ONLY EVENT: Carbon Tax in South Africa for Beginners and Seasoned Practitioners
October 30 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm
The Carbon Tax Act was finalised and set for implementation on January 1, 2019 after many years of consultation and debate in South Africa.
Since then, the Climate Change Act has been passed, which requires the development of sector level Carbon Budgets and alignment between South Africa’s various policy frameworks and climate governance. In 2024, National Treasury further initiated a consultation process on phase 2 of the Carbon Tax and proposed steeper pricing along with a reduction in allowances.
The National Business Initiative (NBI) invites you to a member only session which will focus on the new proposed carbon pricing structure, and whether it is likely to facilitate significant sector decarbonisation and protect South African companies (and the broader economy) from the impacts of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAMs).
As many companies grapple with the tax’s complexity, its strategic implications for their businesses, and compliance and implementation challenges, this session will offer members the opportunity to engage directly with technical experts and experienced peers to:
Deepen your understanding of the carbon tax architecture, allowances and, pricing trajectories in South Africa
Explore linkages with the Climate Change Act, carbon budgets, and international mechanisms such as CBAM and their implications for competitiveness
Discuss the strategic implications and opportunities for business in the evolving policy landscape
Ask any burning technical or compliance related questions that your team may be grappling with
We encourage sustainability, finance, risk, compliance and ESG practitioners within your organisation to join this event.
Date: Tuesday, 30 October 2025 Time: 10:30 – 13:00 (SAST)
