Gearing Transition Finance to Enable Economic and Social Inclusion
October 17 @ 10:00 am - October 18 @ 12:30 pm
INVITATION
Join Us for a Vital Roundtable on Gearing Transition Finance to Enable Economic and Social Inclusion
In a world where capital is abundant, the true challenge lies in unlocking it to drive meaningful climate solutions that promote both economic and social inclusion.
The National Business Initiative (NBI) invites you to join us for a dynamic discussion on how transition finance can be leveraged to address South Africa’s pressing socio-economic challenges while supporting a sustainable, just transition.
Date: Thursday, 17 October 2024 Time: 10:00 to 12:30 (SAST) Zoom Webinar
This roundtable will explore the barriers that prevent marginalised communities from accessing capital to finance innovative transition projects. We move from the premise that climate change affects everyone; however, the most marginalised communities (mainly women and the poor) are disproportionately affected by its effects. For our Just Transition to be truly ‘just’, we need to mobilise climate finance that is supportive of green economy SMMEs that are both gender-sensitive and socially inclusive. By building an inclusive financial ecosystem, we can work toward a climate-resilient future that benefits all South Africans, regardless of race, gender, and income status.
Key discussion points include
Building common understandingof the challenges andbottlenecks in traditional finance for vulnerable social groups andcommunities.
Set the tone for gearinginvestors towards actionablestrategies to advance aninclusive financial ecosystemthat supports the greeneconomy.
Develop a pathway of action ongender-responsive andeconomically inclusive climatefinance for greater social impact.
Engaging investors to supportgreen economy SMMEs withsocial impact.
Call to action
We urge key climate finance actors to contribute actively to a climate finance system that not only supports environmental sustainability but also fosters social equity and economic inclusion, with a focus on social and economically marginalised and vulnerable communities.
